Residential Inpatient PTSD Treatment in California at Connections Mental Health

Are you or someone you love living with PTSD and finally ready to find a residential inpatient program equipped to help? PTSD can keep you locked in a state of flashbacks, emotional dysregulation, sleep disturbances, and an ever-present sense of threat, even in places that should feel safe. The decision to pursue residential treatment is a meaningful one, and finding the right environment matters more than most people realize. We understand the barriers that can complicate that decision:

  • What if the setting itself feels triggering or unsafe?

  • What if no one on staff truly understands trauma at this level?

  • Will I have a say in what my treatment looks like?

  • What if the cost of residential inpatient care is out of reach?

These concerns are grounded in real experience, and they should be treated that way. You deserve a safe, structured, and deeply human environment where healing is possible, not simply managed.

At Connections Mental Health, residential inpatient PTSD treatment in California means much more than symptom reduction. Our licensed clinicians use evidence-based trauma therapies within a supportive inpatient setting, creating individualized plans that address the full scope of how PTSD has shaped your life.

Meet Our Clinicians

Joana Constante Freitas

Therapist - ACSW, MSW, EMDR Certified
My passion for becoming a therapist was shaped by my own experiences navigating cultural challenges, trauma, and substance-related struggles within my community. These experiences deepened my understanding of how important it is to feel seen, supported, and understood during life’s difficult moments. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine and a Master’s in Social Work from California Baptist University. I practice with both cultural and spiritual competence, and I have experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and spiritual traditions. My therapeutic style is direct, honest, and compassionate. I don’t believe you need to have everything figured out to begin therapy. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused work to support healing and growth. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can show up as you are, without judgment or pressure to perform. Whether you are working through trauma, grief, identity challenges, or substance use, my goal is to support you in building insight, resilience, practical coping tools, and a stronger connection with yourself. Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time in nature, practicing my spirituality, playing music, and staying active through sports. I value real, meaningful connections, and I bring that same authenticity into my work with clients.

Huy Nguyen

Therapist - ASCW
My name is Huy Nguyen, and I am an Associate Clinical Social Worker. My therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, collaboration, compassion, and individualized care. I use a warm and direct approach, creating a space where clients can feel supported while also being gently challenged when it can help them grow. I believe that clients are the experts of their own experiences, and my role is to work alongside them to identify the tools and strategies that can help them navigate life more effectively. I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Brainspotting. I tailor these approaches to each client’s unique experiences, needs, and goals rather than believing that one approach works for everyone. My decision to become a therapist was deeply influenced by my own personal experiences with therapy and witnessing how transformative that process can be. Those experiences shaped my belief that therapy can provide not only a place to heal, but also a space to better understand ourselves, develop new ways of coping, and build a life that feels more meaningful. My hope is not to help clients avoid the waves that life inevitably brings, but to help them find calmer seas while developing the skills and confidence to navigate the big waves when they come. Healing may look different for everyone, and I want to help each client discover what healing means for them and find their own way forward.

Ryan Ruiz

Therapist - AMFT
Ryan Ruiz is a dedicated and compassionate therapist at Connections Mental Health, bringing over seven years of experience and more than 3,000 hours of clinical work in substance use and mental health treatment. With a strong foundation in addiction recovery, trauma, and co-occurring disorders, Ryan has provided individual and group therapy across reputable treatment centers, developing personalized treatment plans that foster long-term healing and growth. His expertise spans mindfulness, trauma recovery, and psychodrama, and he has been an active member of interdisciplinary teams focused on clients’ mental, emotional, and physical wellness. As a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, Ryan is deeply committed to expanding his clinical knowledge and staying at the forefront of evidence-based approaches in addiction and mental health care. His therapeutic style blends empathy, structure, and innovation, helping clients navigate challenges with clarity and confidence. Ryan’s holistic approach emphasizes treating the whole person—addressing both the addiction and the underlying issues that contribute to distress and dysfunction. Beyond his clinical role, Ryan is passionate about mindfulness, personal growth, and mental health advocacy. His dedication to helping others extends into the broader community, where he supports initiatives that promote awareness and recovery. With his extensive experience, compassion, and unwavering commitment to client well-being, Ryan Ruiz is a valued member of the Connections Mental Health team, guiding individuals toward lasting change and self-discovery.

Inpatient PTSD Treatment in California

PTSD doesn’t always feel like a memory—it can feel like something you’re still living through. You might notice flashbacks, heightened alertness, difficulty sleeping, or feeling emotionally shut down, even in situations that should feel safe. Over time, your body can stay in a constant state of readiness, making it hard to relax, trust your surroundings, or feel fully present.

If it feels like your system is always on high alert, you’re not alone.

Inpatient PTSD treatment creates space to step out of that constant state of activation. In a structured setting, you can begin working through trauma responses with clinical support, allowing your mind and body to feel safe again.

  • There are no less than [acf field=residential_facilities___number] residential programs within [acf field=residential_facilities___mile_radius] of California, offering structured environments for trauma treatment.

  • Additionally, [acf field=facilities_that_accept_private_insurance___number] programs within [acf field=facilities_that_accept_private_insurance___mile_radius] of California accept private insurance, helping reduce barriers to care.

With steady support, routine, and time to heal, it's possible to begin regulating those responses and rebuilding a sense of control.

PTSD can linger in the body long after the initial experience, often showing up in ways that are hard to fully understand. In a structured environment, it becomes easier to move out of survival mode and begin working through things at a manageable pace.

If it feels like your body is still carrying the weight of a traumatic circumstance, you’re not alone.

Having a clear sense of your options, along with confidence in the quality of care available, can make it easier to find the right support.

  • Within [acf field=high_rated_facilities___mile_radius] miles of California, there are [acf field=high_rated_facilities___number] programs that maintain ratings of at least [acf field=high_rated_facilities___min_rating] stars with a minimum of [acf field=high_rated_facilities___min_review_count] reviews, reflecting consistent, quality care.

  • There are also more than [acf field=facilities___number] mental health treatment programs available within [acf field=facilities___mile_radius] of California, giving you a range of treatment facilities to consider.

Why Residential Inpatient PTSD Treatment in California Is Effective for Trauma Care

According to the Journal of Traumatic Stress, 50–60% of individuals show clinically meaningful improvement with trauma-focused care, supporting better functioning over time. When therapy is applied in a setting that allows full attention to recovery, individuals are better able to process experiences and build resilience. • Targeted trauma therapies that address stored stress responses

  • Techniques to reduce the intensity of flashbacks and intrusive thoughts

  • Individualized sessions based on your specific experiences

  • Support for improving emotional tolerance and regulation

  • Methods to help you stay present during difficult moments

Is Traveling in Orange County, California, for Residential Inpatient PTSD Treatment Worth It?

Not everyone expects a location change to make a difference, but for many people with PTSD, the environment they’re in plays a big role in how symptoms show up. Being in the same place where triggers are constantly present can make it harder to feel settled or stay engaged in treatment. Research published in the European Journal of Psychotraumatology notes that reducing environmental stressors and trauma-related cues can support better emotional regulation and treatment response, with studies showing that around 30–40% of individuals achieve remission following structured trauma-focused treatment.

Our clients who chose to travel for PTSD care noticed:

  • A break from surroundings that reinforce distressing reactions

  • More mental space to process experiences without interruption

  • Improved ability to stay grounded during therapy

  • A shift toward feeling less constantly on alert

The calming atmosphere of Orange County, California, offers a different pace and setting that can support this transition. The combination of natural light, open environments, and a wellness-oriented culture can help create a sense of ease that complements treatment. At Connections Mental Health, this setting is complemented by personalized, hands-on care that helps you feel more settled, improve how you respond to triggers, and gradually build a stronger sense of control in your day-to-day life.
